Ashley Cushon x Oyedotun Ajewole | Backstitch Exhibit

As part of Backstitch, a companion exhibition to Project Upcycle’s All-Stars Edition curated by Jennifer Moore (Recovergirl) and hosted by 3S Artspace, our founder Ashley Cushon (CORE OF US) and her co-artist and partner Oyedotun Ajewole explore the theme of Creative Initiation, reflecting on how creativity both doubles back and moves forward.

Their featured piece uses childlike forms to symbolize youth, growth, and the cyclical nature of inspiration. Through their perspectives, the work considers how early creative sparks evolve over time and how the act of creation continues to renew itself through teaching, sharing, and reflection.

Together, Ashley and Oyedotun invite viewers to consider their own “why” behind creativity, how it begins, how it matures, and how it endures.
